The scheme will see 14 community groups receive £2 million worth of funding to implement energy saving measures such as double glazing and improved insulation.
It will showcase how households can benefit, in terms of cheaper electricity and gas, from the latest energy efficiency measures.
Phil Bentley, managing director of British Gas, said: "We hope that community buildings - which can include pubs and schools - will come up with more [ideas], perhaps for generating energy as well as saving it."
According to the Daily Telegraph, taking a simple measure like installing double glazing can cut heat loss from a building by as much as 50 per cent making gas and electricity bills cheaper.
