Restaurants in Worcestershire are being encouraged to boost their energy saving efforts by increasing the amount of romance in their establishments, it has been claimed.

According to the Redditch Advertiser, restaurants in the region are being encourage to take part in a Dine By Candlelight inititative this November.

The programme is part of a wider energy saving and climate change proposal called Switch It Off Week.

Worcestershire County Council is asking restaurateurs to dim their lights for at least one evening between November 7th and 13th, the paper states.

For those wanting to save energy at home, switching energy supplier or looking for the cheapest deal on price comparison websites could be far more effective.

Meanwhile, Kirklees Council has insulated more than 13,000 cavity walls and 30,000 lofts as part of its Warm Zone initiative.

The council hopes the programme could save households across West Yorkshire up to £7 million a year on their energy bills.
