A new survey conducted for the Liverpool Convention Bureau found 56 per cent of people questioned said green issues are important to their company.
Firms in the Midlands and north-west appear to be the most environmentally friendly, with 59 per cent stating a green ethos is an important credential for a business.
Switching to a cheap electricity supplier and seeing the resulting financial savings could prompt employers to make further changes to their energy usage.
Commenting on the findings about north-west firms, Carol O'Reilly, from the Liverpool Convention Bureau, said: "As a city Liverpool embodies green principles wholeheartedly with carbon emissions per person lower than the national average."
Support for businesses aiming to go green can be found from the Carbon Trust, which helps those that want to cut emissions and save energy.
