Many older people feel they are prime targets for financial exploitation, something that could come to an end with a switch of energy supplier.

According to Rosie Staal, author of Earning Money After You've Retired, many elderly citizens are concerned their advancing years makes them vulnerable to being ripped off.

"Dire warnings in the media about scams and conmen add to the fear and the feelings of being at financial risk from people they cannot trust," she explains.

One way to end the feeling of exploitation and instead secure a bargain may be by comparing electricity prices online and making a switch of energy provider.

Ms Staal's words follow a recent report entitled Putting Retirement Housing in Order, which concluded an increasing number of people are fed up with the cost of selling a home.

Age UK, which commissioned the report, this week said people in retirement accommodation are among those being taken advantage of financially.
