Property dwellers looking to reduce their home energy bills so they enjoy cheap gas and electricity prices should be prioritising insulation, if one expert is to be believed.

A spokesperson for B&Q said there are plenty of things people can do to reduce their invoices and save money thanks to cheap power.

"One of our top tips includes insulating lofts, as it is estimated that those who take the time to lay insulation will save around £145 year on year," the representative stated.

Approximately a third of carbon emissions are said to be from existing housing stock, meaning those living in older properties have plenty of scope to drive down costs.

In such cases, adding insulation to a loft and roof is the single most-effective step that can be taken on the road to cheap gas and electricity, says the expert.

The comments come just a few days before the Energy Saving Trust holds its annual Energy Saving Week, which starts next Monday (October 25th).
