Britons have been given an opportunity to experience the cheap gas and electricity bills they could enjoy on a permanent basis with a greener approach.

Today (October 25th) marks the start of Energy Saving Week, which has been organised by the Energy Saving Trust.

Sarah Compo, the organisation's energy doctor, says people are to be offered access to information on how to reduce their home's power consumption - and, in the process, their monthly invoices.

While a switch of energy supplier could be thought of as the most effective way to lower bills, the expert suggests there are plenty of other useful tactics.

"Some simple tips to save energy include turning you appliances off fully rather than leaving them on standby, ensuring that you use energy saving light bulbs and turning your central heating thermostat down," Ms Compo states.

The Energy Saving Trust offers free, impartial advice to homeowners across the UK in a bid to help them save cash.
