A concerted effort by one firm to lower its costs has seen its electricity bill slashed by 91 per cent.

According to the Globe and Mail, VeriForm - a Canadian metal fabricating brand - has seen its charges fall after president and owner Paul Rak underwent what he calls major life changes.

He became a father for the first time, purchased an energy-efficient car and watched the commended Al Gore documentary An Inconvenient Truth - and found himself determined to lower his firm's impact on the environment.

Workers clubbed together to work on over 60 eco-friendly projects, altogether saving some CAD$120,000 (£73,934) a year, perhaps highlighting the potential for savings in business energy costs.

These have included fitting energy-efficient lights with motion activators, as well as installing a centralised thermostat and door control.

A spokesperson for The Renewable Energy Centre website recently stated that business energy represents one of the areas in which the most savings can be made.
