The organisation begins by suggesting people ensure lofts and pipes are insulated so that energy does not escape from them, before adding it is also wise to carry out a check of the boiler.
Gordon Morris, managing director at the firm, said: "With most parts of the country braced for freezing temperatures, snow, sleet and even fog, Age UK Enterprises recommends homeowners take simple steps to winter proof their homes."
Other pieces of advice include sweeping out the inside of chimneys, insulating outside taps and leaving heating switched on at a low level.
The Met Office this week predicted the UK is set to see sub-zero temperatures and snow over the coming days.
