Firms are increasingly realising business energy bills are likely to tumble if they adopt a series of green practices, says an expert.

John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, says organisations are finally moving away from the theory that being eco-friendly is an inconvenience and are seeing the benefits it can bring.

Indeed, a greener approach to operations can reduce the amount of power required within a workplace and subsequently decrease the size of business energy bills.

"Greenhouse gas emissions reporting shows where energy savings can be made which help to reduce overheads, improve business performance and protect the bottom line," Mr Barwise notes.

Another change is that many firms are now viewing green changes as something they want to implement, rather than an instruction from shareholders.

The expert's comments come after a report by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs published a report stating those who record their emissions experience a huge number of advantages.
