As British households prepare to adopt an increasing amount of green power, a switch of energy supplier may be required in order to ensure the best deal on renewable fuel.

Will Rolls, information officer at the Biomass Energy Centre, explains various types of sustainable energy will come together in the next few years to help the UK go green.

One of these is biomass, which he describes as "part of the answer", adding it is essentially a cheap way of heating and lighting properties.

"At the moment the domestic price is such that it would be cheaper to run a [biomass] system, but significantly more expensive to put it in to begin with," Mr Rolls states.

Should this hurdle be overcome and Britons begin to rely on eco-friendly power, a switch of energy supplier may be required by many as tariffs are altered to reflect the new fuel sources.

The New York Times recently reported the Swedish town of Kristianstad has ditched fossil fuels and is now entirely reliant upon renewable sources.
