An expert believes some of the UK's firms need more incentives if they are to go green in terms of their business energy consumption.

Dan Ilett, editor in chief of, says the country is already in possession of the technology that would turn much of its power usage eco-friendly.

However, he suggests the take-up of this is being held back by the government's reluctance to incentivise a switch to green methods and sources.

Indeed, a recent study by Ernst and Young found just 13 per cent of British companies believe the government will put in place the conditions required to trigger a large-scale adoption of environmentally-friendly fuel.

"A lot of the emphasis on clean tech projects in this country have been about energy generation from renewables, and that area certainly has hit a wall trying to extend," states Mr Ilett.

Business energy customers could be increasingly looking to make a change of supplier, after all but one of the country's leading power providers upped their prices recently.
