Firms whose business electricity is supplied by EDF Energy may see changes to their service as the company has submitted evidence to a government study into the safety of nuclear power.

Led by Her Majesty's chief inspector of nuclear installations Dr Mike Weightman, the investigation follows the Fukushima disaster in Japan, where a power station reactor was hit by an explosion.

Vincent de Rivaz, chief executive of EDF, applauded the official's efforts to make the submissions and results of the official report available to the public. "We will do our best to assist Dr Weightman in his work and establish measures to implement his findings," he said.

Last month, Mr de Rivaz read a statement to ministers at the Nuclear Development Forum and explained how his corporation would help workers in the Far Eastern country to control the risks at Fukushima.

As a precautionary measure, it has also carried out checks of its own facilities and established a review for its plans to deal with an emergency situation.
