Yellow flame

The results of a recent study have confounded the general view that the consumer level of trust for energy suppliers is at an all time low.

According to an article published by the Independent, the study, conducted by YouGov, has shown that 84 per cent of people believe that energy suppliers are maximising their profits at the expense of their customers.

A further three out of five stated that they agree with the assertion that energy suppliers treat people with contempt.

The huge profit margins revealed by the Big Six suppliers - British Gas, EDF Energy, E.ON, npower, Scottish Energy and SSE - in particular have raised the ire of consumers.

James McCoy, YouGov Sixth Sense research director, commented on the findings.

He said: "The strength and negativity of feeling regarding the energy companies' profits is clearly demonstrated. The findings suggest that many people are more outraged by the profits being made than their actual energy bill."
