SSE set to launch reward scheme for its energy customers

SSE is set to launch a reward scheme to its customers in line with its sponsorship of major sporting events including the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Rugby Football Union (RFU).

The 'Big Six' energy firm is looking to capitalise on the success of other reward schemes, such as the mobile network giant O2's, O2 Priority, by offering customers access to a 48 hour pre-sale ticket service to the Commonwealth Games among other rewards or incentives.

The move marks SSE's sponsorship of what is now known as the SSE Hydro entertainment arena in Glasgow - a venue set to officially open later in the month.

SSE director of Commonwealth Games and sponsorship, Wendy Barbour, said: "SSE Reward promises to provide real added value for our customers with a great range of exclusive benefits and rewards being added to over time and featuring benefits from a range of our sponsorships across the UK."

Many 'Big Six' energy firms are now looking at ways in which they can further involve customers directly rather than focussing extensively on price based marketing strategies - especially with competition so fierce between the suppliers.

SSE is also part of the government's Green Deal initiative. Under the scheme, the firm's energy customers can apply for loans on home improvement items such as a new energy efficient boiler or wall insulation designed to reduce energy bills and cut down domestic carbon emissions.
