Compare cheap energy deals to find the cheapest gas and electricity tariffs

Energy prices vary depending upon a range of factors, including how and when you use energy, the type of tariff you sign up to, and even the part of the country you live in, with urban areas usually benefiting from cheaper energy deals that rural regions.

Who is the cheapest energy supplier?

Energy prices are always changing, and cheap energy deals are regularly introduced to encourage customers to switch to a cheaper energy supplier. The trouble is, the cheapest energy supplier for one customer might not be the cheapest energy provider for another. That’s why it’s important to enter as much information as possible when running an energy comparison – the more accurate the information, the more accurate our quotes will be.

But to get an idea of the cheapest dual fuel energy tariffs and cheapest gas and electricity companies currently out there, check out the table below and use it as a rough guide when comparing rates.

The average bills shown in the table below assume you’re a medium energy user, getting through about 12,000 kWh of gas and around 3,100 kWh of electricity a year. The figures are also based on the assumption that you’ll sign up to a dual fuel tariff, which means the same company supplies both your gas and electricity, and will pay for your bills by monthly Direct Debit.

The rates below should only be used as a guide, and it’s important to carry out your own comparison to make sure the cheap gas and electric prices you’re shown are completely accurate for your specific circumstances.

Do cheap energy companies offer a good service?

The price you pay for your energy doesn’t necessarily reflect the quality of service you’ll get from your energy supplier – it all depends upon the company in question.

If you find the cheapest energy supplier is one you’ve never heard of, don’t let this put you off switching to them. These smaller suppliers are often trying to get a foothold in the market, and so there’s every chance they will offer great customer service, and because your gas and electricity is supplied through existing pipes and cables, there’ll be no disruption to your service.

And don’t assume the bigger, better known energy suppliers will provide a high level of customer service, as this is an area where some definitely fall short. For greater peace of mind, it’s always worth reading customer reviews before you switch.

Why compare cheap gas and electricity deals?

The main reason most people compare quotes is because they want to cut their energy bills by signing up to a cheaper energy deal than the one they’re currently on. But there might be other reasons you want to switch energy supplier – you might want your energy provided by a company that provides better customer service, or one which offers green energy deals.

Whatever your reason for switching, running a comprehensive price comparison is the only way to make sure you’re on the best deal. If your current deal has an early exit fee, this means you might have to pay your supplier an amount to end the deal early. But it’s worth noting that you can switch to a new deal without paying a penalty fee once your current contract enters its last 49 days, so always check the T&Cs and end date of your current deal before shopping around for cheaper energy deals.

And when comparing cheap gas and electric deals, it’s worth considering the different types of tariff on offer. Fixed priced tariffs are a great way to protect against price rises, as the rate you pay per unit of energy is fixed for the length of the contract. But you might want to switch to a variable rate tariff, to take advantage to lower rates if energy prices fall.
