Cheap electricity availability to be boosted by smart meter rollout
A new partnership between the energy supplier and smart meter manufacturer Landis+Gyr is to result in British Gas rolling out up to one million units made by the firm, which can also be used to monitor gas consumption.
This will potentially enable customers to benefit from cheap dual fuel by allowing them to easily work out and control the amount of gas and electricity they are utilising.
Director for smart metering at British Gas Petter Allison said smart meters "have a fundamental role to play as they help customers become far more aware of the amount and cost of energy they use".
In turn, this encourages people to "reduce their usage and save money" he remarked.
The move is part of a wider initiative from British Gas, which is to introduce two million smart meters in homes by 2012.
