Fife business energy customers affected by plant demolition?
Yesterday (April 20th), a controlled explosion of the boiler house was carried out as part of a site clearance project. The company's Dylan Hughes said his team is currently making preparations for the removal of a 300-ft chimney at some point in the summer.
Safety was a priority for those in charge and they worked with the police to set up a cordon around the blast area.
The station was functional from 1965 to 2000 and used waste coal, gathered from nearby yields, to pump out 60 megawatts of electricity. However, the energy firm kept it as a back-up after production ceased.
Forth Ports owns the land on which the facility is situated and operates four more sites in the area, including Leith, Grangemouth and Rosyth. ScottishPower will vacate the Methil location next year when its lease finishes.
