* Between 1 Jul 2018 and 31 Dec 2018, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with uSwitch saved £447 or more.

People switching energy provider and fixing their tariff now could benefit from cheaper electricity and gas bills, it has been claimed.

According to lovemoney.com, people who fixed their tariffs a year ago benefitted as average energy prices across the big six suppliers rose by 28 per cent.

However, with prices starting to come back down, now could be a good time to switch provider and fix as the cheapest tariffs are not falling in value that dramatically, the money expert stated.

The website said: "Whether a fixed tariff is suitable varies depending on where you live, how much gas and electricity you use, how likely you think a price rise is, and whether you could afford it if there was a big increase.

"As always, I recommend to anyone who hasn't switched for a while to compare tariffs."

Meanwhile, energy-efficiency website UK Energy Saving said waiting for prices to drop further before switching could be a mistake.
