Households to be shown how to cut energy bills by becoming more energy efficient

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Households will be shown how they can use energy efficient measures to reduce their gas and electricity bills by a number of new eco show homes.

People will be able to test out the green way of living thanks to the construction of 100 eco-homes that the government is funding, the Independent reported.

Housing minister John Healy will announce the start of construction work on the properties in towns close to the four sites earmarked to be Britain's first zero-carbon developments.

The show homes will be fitted with energy-saving measures such as smart meters, electric car charging points, solar-heated water tanks and water-saving and composting systems.

This month the Daily Telegraph's personal finance reporter Kara Gammell revealed a number of ways that have allowed her to cut her energy bills by £528 such as cutting back on gas consumption by using loft insulation, wooden blinds and adhesive foam tape.

Ms Gammell also pointed out that many people wrongly assume that they must wait at least a year before you change tariffs.

In reality it is easy to switch every six weeks, ensuring that a household is always on the cheapest deal, she explained.
