Prince Harry is becoming an embarrassment to Britain, a veteran royal photographer has claimed.

In an interview with BBC News 24's Hard Talk programme, Arthur Edwards said that the 22-year-old prince "should be behaving a lot better".

The comments by the photographer, who is employed by the Sun newspaper, come after Prince Harry made headlines last week after he allegedly scuffled with a member of the paparazzi on leaving a London nightclub.

Mr Edwards, who was interviewed after giving evidence to a parliamentary select committee about press intrusion, said: "I think Prince Harry is dangerously becoming an embarrassment to this country.

"He knows that if he goes to these nightclubs, paparazzi hang around. It's par for the course," added the photographer, insinuating that the prince was aware of the impact that his behaviour had.

Clarence House has refused to comment on the claims made by Mr Edwards about Prince Harry, who has been increasingly portrayed by the tabloids as a 'wild child'.

The third in line to the throne, whose late mother Princess Diana was subject to a high level of press attention, was previously been lambasted after appearing dressed in a Nazi uniform at a costume party.

Prince Harry, who will leave for a six-month posting in Iraq next month after training as an army officer, is reportedly set to receive a warning from his military superiors about his latest antics.

A security source told the Daily Mail earlier this month that a "high-ranking" officer would tell the prince that his behaviour was unacceptable prior to his deployment.
