Scotland pushes for 100 per cent renewable energy
The Scottish government has today pledged to commit to continue its push towards 100 per cent renewable energy by 2020 according to a leading energy comparisonsite.
Scotland's first minister, Alex Salmond said that Scotland had reached their 2011 target and with a 'rapid pace of development' could generate 100 per cent of the country's electricityÂ from renewable energy within the time targets.
He said: "By  we intend to be generating twice as much electricity as Scotland needs â€“ just over half of it from renewables, and just under half from other conventional sources.
"We will now move still further and faster to secure our place as the green energy powerhouse of the continent of Europe."
He claimed that offshore wind would play a role in helping them achieve their target at the same time as announcing a new offshore wind portal.
