SSE successfully tests hydro-electric energy production

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

**Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has announced it has reached a milestone in the operations of one of its hydro-electric power stations.

The firm, one of the leading energy providers in the UK, successfully generated the maximum 100 megawatts of energy from its Glendoe hydro-electric scheme for a 24-hour period.**

According to SSE, the testing of the Loch Ness-based plant has proved the reliability of the generation equipment before it is handed to its Generation Operations division later this month.

Ian Marchant, chief executive of SSE, said the scheme is giving hydro-electric power in Scotland "a new lease of life".

He added: "I've been very pleased to see for myself such good progress at Glendoe and to see this important stage in the commissioning of the scheme being reached."

British Eco-Energy recently said that wind turbines are one of the most cost-effective forms of renewable energy available in the UK.

The organisation added wind turbines fit well with the climate and geography of the UK.
