Switch of energy supplier to British Gas may pay off for Britons
Thousands of Britons who are struggling to pay their power bills this winter may find a switch of energy supplier does the trick.
That is if they change to British Gas, which has announced it is making a £37 million investment to help people out of a financial black hole.
It is to pay out about £50 to some 340,000 of its customers who are finding it tough to meet their current invoices.
Ian Peters, chief operating officer at British Gas, says: "We know that money is very tight for many people in Britain right now, particularly our elderly, poor and disabled customers."
Those who are on the firm's essentials social tariff will soon find a £50 credit is attached to their bills.
Consumer Focus's head of energy Audrey Gallacher reacted to news of the help from British Gas by admitting many people on low incomes will benefit from the move.
