Renewable energy and waste disposal company Viridor has signed a green energy deal with Glasgow City Council that will see it provide homes and public buildings in the city with energy, via a new recycling plant. has stated that Viridor will go ahead with plans to build the new plant in Polmadie, Glasgow - on a site formerly home to an incinerator.

It has been estimated that Viridor's new plant could recycle 200,000 tonnes of rubbish each year. The energy generated by the process would then be used to provide heat and power - which could potentially be used as an alternative source of energy by green energy suppliers.

Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, stated: "This project will heat homes and power public buildings, create skilled jobs and support apprenticeships. It is our opportunity to secure a future that is cleaner, more affordable and sees the city's waste work for benefit of Glaswegians."
