A scheme that many people are likely to apply for before the cold weather sets in, some remain unaware that they are automatically considered for the Warm Home Discount Scheme.
Providing those who meet the qualifying conditions with £130 to put towards their electricity bills, this particular scheme is open to a core group - pensioners - and a broader group - other energy customers in vulnerable groups.
The Core Group:
Those that receive a pension credit are automatically considered. People under the age of 80 that received the guarantee credit element - but no savings credit element -Â of their pension credits, on the 21 July 2012 qualifying date, could also qualify. Whilst those aged 80 or over could also be eligible to receive the payment regardless of whether they were receiving both of the aforementioned elements of their pension credit on the qualifying date.
The Broader Group:
As the Warm Home Discount Scheme is funded by those energy suppliers participating in it, some of them also offer the payment to customers in what are considered to be vulnerable groups. The criteria used to determine which customers should receive the discount varies from supplier to supplier.
