Who is Affect Energy?

Founded in 2016, Affect Energy’s USP was that it was an independent supplier drawing upon the know-how of experts with more than ‘50 years of energy experience’.

Its mission statement was to provide a ‘simple, painless and great value for money’ energy supply, which involved:

offering cheap gas and electricity being an energy supplier that actually did what they’d promised

This offering of “Simply Brilliant Energy” was based on the following values:

  • Putting people first - Treating customers as a person, rather than another account number, and treating them as they would like to be treated themselves.
  • Trying new things - Innovation, doing things differently and challenging convention to make sure they provide customers with the best possible service.
  • Keeping things real - Taking the jargon out of energy by giving customers the information they need, when they need it, and in a way that makes sense.

By 2018, Affect Energy had built up a customer base of 22,000 and was receiving great customer reviews. This caught the attention of Octopus Energy, which then successfully bought out Affect Energy in a move that was beneficial for both parties - Octopus acquired one of its small rivals and Affect Energy got the opportunity to develop and offer more services to its customers under the Octopus umbrella.

Although bought out by Octopus, the brand continues to trade under the name Affect Energy.

What is Affect Energy’s fuel mix?

Electricity is generated from a combination of different fuels, including nuclear, coal and renewable sources (wind, hydro and solar). The different amounts of each fuel contributed makes up a supplier’s fuel mix.

As Affect Energy is now owned by Octopus, here is Octopus Energy’s gas and electricity fuel mix as of April 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019:
