Business energy users may wish to follow in the footsteps of one company owner in Sussex who successfully identified a mistake in his invoice.
Mark Allen, a cheesemonger with his own deli shop in the southern county, was wrongly charged more than £18,000 by E.on recently, reports the BBC.
The error was the result of the dual fuel provider believing the retail outlet possessed a five-digit meter, when in fact it boasts six.
While the power firm has now agreed to halve Mr Allen's bill to £9,250, he admits he was initially worried he may lose his company as a result of the demand for cash.
"At the end of the day I'm a humble cheesemonger and they're electricity retailing experts. They should be able to tell me what I'm using and take the money accordingly," he tells the news source.
Other business energy customers may be wise to check their bills closely and make a switch of supplier should mistakes occur.
Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the British Property Federation, recently predicted the cost of fuel for firms would be a priority for many in 2011.
