Improved efficiency and switch of energy provider will help during winter
While a switch of energy provider may be an obvious answer ahead of the upcoming winter, cold weather and associated rises in home energy bills, people should also look at their property's efficiency.
A spokeswoman for National Energy Action says the next few months will "always be tough" for those in vulnerable financial positions.
Finding a balance between keeping a home warm for the benefit of those living there and driving down monthly invoices is a difficult task.
"People need to ensure that their homes are as energy efficient as possible and that they are not risking their health by not putting the heating on through fear of debt or disconnection," the expert explains.
Homeowners may also wish to alleviate some of the stress by completing a switch of energy provider in order to enjoy the cheapest tariff.
A recent study by consumer site Which? found a typical person could save £400 a year just by swapping to another payment scheme.
