Solar panels could cut electricity bills by 40%

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Households looking to reduce their energy bills could save themselves 40 per cent by installing solar panels, it has been claimed.

According to, on top of the £300 a year homeowners can save by installing insulation and improving the efficiency of their heating, solar panels can even make people money if they generate enough electricity to sell back to the grid.

The website said: "In England and Scotland, you don’t need planning permission for most home solar electricity systems, as long as they’re below a certain size – but you should check with your local planning officer if your home is a listed building, or is in a conservation area or World Heritage Site."

For those who are not eligible for grants to support them in buying solar panels, switching energy suppliers online using price comparison websites could be a good alternative.

Recently, the Daily Mail claimed that people who have never switched energy supplier could be paying 20 per cent more than those who have.
