Formally known as PowerGen, the company was created in 1990 and was subsequently bought by the German energy giant E.ON in 2002, but didn't assume the name of its parent company E.ON until late 2007. The change was carried out over a long period of time in order to minimise waste and excessive cost. They are the world's largest investor-owned electricity and Gas Company and one of the UK's "Big 6" energy suppliers.

E.ON are one of the UK's leading power and gas companies, supplying millions of homes and businesses across the country and also offer a range of home energy services, including boiler and central heating installation, maintenance and insurance. E.ON are the second largest electricity generator in the UK and own the second largest distribution network in the UK.

E.ON supply around 8 million electricity and gas customer accounts, covering domestic, SME and industrial. One of the main providers of energy to British industry, supplying over 13,000 large industrial and commercial customers.

E.ON's green credentials speak for themselves, with 21 wind farms located from Cornwall to Northern Ireland, the UK's largest dedicated biomass power station at Lockerbie and they're developing one of the world's largest offshore wind farms, which will be built in UK waters.
