An expert has identified lighting as an area firms may wish to target if they are aiming to reduce the amount they spend on business energy.

Duncan Stevens, director of Vita Energia, writing for Fresh Business Thinking, says it is one of the easiest ways to improve efficiency.

Upgrading lighting systems, installing eco-friendly bulbs and utilising other technology is recommended by the author.

Commenting on the latest options, Mr Stevens states: "The lighting systems convert electricity to light extremely efficiently and use aluminium reflective technology to produce as much light as possible, spread evenly over the work surface."

As well as enjoying cheaper business energy bills after going green, companies could also find themselves able to boast of doing their bit for the environment – something that is increasingly important in industry.

Sam Jarvis, head of communications at Waste Watch, recently said organisations can cut expenditure simply by reducing the amount of waste they produce.
