Residents in Wales will soon benefit from cheap gas and electricity bills if a project is successful.
The Welsh Assembly Government has announced plans for energy-efficient homes in the country that will see people pay as little as £7.50 a week for their heating, lighting and hot water.
Jane Davidson, minister for environment sustainability and housing, suggested a balance must be found between an aggressive approach to green development and affordable building costs.
"We have a great opportunity to improve the way new buildings are built and with it huge responsibility to provide the right support to our economic recovery," she says.
Some homeowners in Wales may find that a switch of energy supplier is the perfect way to gain access to cheap electricity and gas rates prior to the expected 2013 launch of the energy-efficient properties.
The Welsh Assembly Government lists the environment as one of its main priorities, alongside health and education.
