Energy customers in both the UK and the US believe their respective governments are not doing enough to promote energy efficiency, according to new research.
The study by Abacus Billing also claimed that British consumers are more concerned about the environmental impact of their energy use than their US counterparts, who are more worried by the cost of energy inefficiency.
Discussing the survey, Abacus chief executive Karl Wills said the findings also emphasised how more should be done to increase awareness of smart meter technology in the UK.
He explained: "This survey reinforces what we already know, namely that customers want to save money as well as see more detail on their utility bill features that go hand-in-hand with smart metering."
The new pressure for the UK government to promote energy efficiency comes after Greenpeace demanded for the introduction of further efficiency standards following environment minister Hilary Benns announcement of plans to phase high power light bulbs out of major retailers.
