In the world of domestic gas price drops, the excitement continues with an announcement this morning that British Gas will be cutting their residential gas prices by a further 5.1%. This is the third time since the beginning of 2015 that British Gas have announced a price reduction – more than any of the other major energy providers.
The reduction is effective from the 16th March 2015 and around 6.8 million customers on current British Gas tariffs will benefit from an average energy bill drop of £31 – making their standard energy tariff £1,044 per year.
Whilst any drops in prices from the Big Six is good news, it’s always important to remember that a price drop doesn’t automatically mean it’s the cheapest tariff available. Even with their most recent price reduction, British Gas’ standard tariff is still £279 more expensive than the cheapest deal on the market – that’s a potential 26.7% price cut for shopping around!
