Companies across the UK will find they save money on their business energy bills if they adopt green IT technology, says one expert.
Michael Shanks, chief technology officer at Ultraspeed, explains the initial outlay on eco-friendly equipment can often be well worth it in the long run.
Parts that cost less to run are more expensive he admits, but offers the example that 8GB of RAM that is environmentally friendly uses 40 per cent less power than 4GB of Ram that is not.
"Building the correct strategy for your IT expenditure can see initial investments being higher, however if you plan accordingly and virtualise, you can use less equipment, less power and less cooling," Mr Shanks notes.
The result of this is typically a decrease in business energy costs and, perhaps, increased profitability.
Ultraspeed is a major firm in the hosting market and prides itself on an innovative approach to technology.
