Thinking of the environment does not have to be a costly choice – it can actually trigger a reduction in business energy charges, says an expert.
John Barwise, chairman of the Cumbria Green Business Forum, says switching to sustainable resources can have a number of positive effects on a firm.
"Why has it taken so long to realise that going green is a sound business investment?" he asks.
By placing emphasis on being eco-friendly, companies may find they start to use less power when carrying out their day-to-day activities.
He adds it is often cost-effective to implement measures that will help to reduce fuel consumption, creating savings that far outweigh the initial cost of installation.
Mr Barwise was speaking after multinational firm Unilever announced it is implementing a new Sustainable Living Plan, which will see it attempt to extract 100 per cent of its materials in green ways from reusable sources.
