Business energy customers 'demand green offices'
Business energy customers are demanding environmentally-friendly qualities from the offices they choose to rent, it has been shown.
The eighth Emerging Trends in Real Estate 2011 report - which took into account the considerations of 600 industry experts and has been published by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and the Urban Land Institute - found sustainability is now a "front and centre" priority for many.
According to the survey, green buildings will be positioned as more attractive, healthier and more marketable in the coming year.
Malcolm Preston, sustainability and climate change partner at PwC, said of the drive for more eco-friendly offices: "It's become an economically rational choice for businesses when you consider the returns from energy efficiency driven by the green agenda."
Last week, the business energy reduction plans put in place by Birmingham City Council were praised by the Westminster Sustainable Business Forum, which claimed the Working for the Future initiative is one that should be followed by other authorities.
