Owners of commercial properties will target business energy consumption in 2011, as they seek to become greener, says one expert.
Ian Fletcher, director of policy at the British Property Federation, predicts energy efficiency will be an "increasingly important consideration" for real estate landlords over the next 12 months.
Comparing electricity online could be a good place to start, as a change of supplier may be as effective as cutting down on usage.
As well as paying more in monthly bills, owners of commercial property will find poor energy performance has an impact on the value of their buildings, states Mr Fletcher.
"That should be something that landlords are going to find they are going to have to take account of or they won't be the best performing businesses in our sector," he suggests.
A recent report by King Sturge noted controlling business energy expenses is a critical factor in an economy that is getting over a recession.
