A switch of energy provider may be seen by many firms as one way to bring down business energy bills.

However, one expert believes he has another policy that is also effective – taking on a green, eco-friendly approach.

Alex Randall, spokesman for the Centre for Alternative Technology, says thinking of the environment, such as through investment in renewable power sources, is important.

"We will also need massive government investment in renewable energy infrastructure and legislation to stop new developments of the most polluting forms of energy generation," he adds.

Driving down consumption and splashing out on greener forms of energy may be ways of ensuring monthly business energy invoices are not as hefty as they once were.

Duncan Botting, executive chairman of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre, recently said the sector is waiting on government frameworks to be announced before investment is made in green fuel.
