Business gas users are advised the company has appointed Trilliant for a new smart grid contract that will see it supply communications technology required to connect existing and future energy systems and devices.
The US energy solutions specialist will expand an existing relationship with the utilities company, as British Gas aims to roll out over one million smart meters across the country during 2012.
Under the plans, many of the 16 million UK business and consumer customers will have the devices installed, enabling them to monitor energy use with accurate up-to-the-minute data.
Trilliant president and chief executive Andy White stated the enterprise is looking forward to expanding its activities in the UK smart metering market "by providing an end-to-end, open standard, multi-network communications solution that is compatible with emerging UK smart meter regulations".
Meanwhile, National Energy Action, which has launched its Warm Homes Campaign, recently declared more needs to be done to address increasing fuel poverty in the UK.
