Homeowners who compare electricity prices online ahead of the winter may be pleasantly surprised by the tariffs they find available.
One such plan could be that offered by EDF Energy, which has frozen its charges for the upcoming season – a move that has been welcomed by Consumer Focus.
Audrey Gallacher, head of energy at the organisation, said it is good news that the fuel provider has opted to retain its current cost structure.
"However, people should still make sure they're on the cheapest payment method and best deal for their energy as price can vary by up to £200 per year," she added.
Perhaps the most effective way of achieving this is to visit a comparison site such as UK Power and compare electricity prices from various suppliers against each other.
Home Energy Scotland announced this week that households north of the border will be able to benefit from technology handed out by the government to reduce power consumption – perhaps further lowering bills this winter.
