A switch of energy supplier may be one way to prove an expert wrong and enjoy cheaper gas and electricity bills.
Peter Jenkins, spokesperson for the Home Heat Helpline, says people are not doing anything to resolve worries about high payments ahead of the winter.
Research by the organisation shows 44 per cent of Britons are concerned about the effect the cold weather later this year will have on their bills.
"What we are ... showing is that people aren't really acting on the fact that they are worried about the winter ahead and worried about energy bills," explains Mr Jenkins.
Some may find their troubles solved by a switch of energy supplier, which could see them paying significantly lower rates for power than they currently do.
The Fuel Poverty Advisory Group, which is part of the Department of Energy and Climate Change, recently noted energy prices could soar by 50 per cent as the cost of going green is passed on to consumers.
