Energy consumers 'clueless on costs'

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Around 80 per cent of energy consumers in the UK have no exact idea of how much they pay for their gas and electricity, according to a new study.

Research by the Energy Saving Trust has found that eight out of ten people are unsure about their utility rates, while others stated that their energy bills were more confusing than bank statements and credit card bills.

However, around 50 per cent of consumers revealed that they would consider installing a smart meter in their properties if it improves the accuracy of their bills.

Discussing the findings with the Press Association, the Energy Saving Trust's chief executive Philip Sellwood said that without the use of smart meters, bills will not become clearer.

He added: "Smart meters help householders work out how much energy they are using, how much they are paying for it as well as showing in real time which appliances are producing the most CO2."

The government recently announced plans to introduce smart meters to large and medium businesses across the UK.
