The Government has called for supermarket giants to start supplying energy.
Chris Huhne MP, the Liberal Democrat energy minister, is concerned about the rising cost of gas and electricity - despite the Conservative's pre-election pledge to halt soaring bills.
According to the Daily Mirror, the MP has said supermarket giants like Tesco and Asda should enter the energy supply market to ensure costs are driven down.
He believes it will result in cheaper gas and electricity for the public.
The Mirror reports that Mr Huhne said: “I would welcome any move by Tesco to sell energy. It sells petrol and loft insulation, so it's a natural step.â€
His suggestion comes after the Co-Op group said it was looking at plans to supply energy, whilst has Sainsbury's announced it is looking to work with British Gas.
