Expert: Business electricity suppliers should tell firms more
Firms are largely at the mercy of business electricity suppliers when it comes to using eco-friendly energy at their premises.
That is the view of Will Hodson, of the Ethical Consumer Magazine, who says promises made by providers may not always be true.
He also suggests business electricity and business gas should come through an intermediary, meaning prices and quality are transparent.
"It's tempting to believe the latest glossy advert and think you're buying green, but you're probably not. We need hard figures from companies," Mr Hodson notes.
One way both businesses and individual consumers could find out more about the details of their energy is by using a site such as UK Power.
However, in the long term, the expert would like to see regulations imposed that would make it a requirement for providers to explain the precise impact of their energy.
Shopping website Kelkoo recently predicted sales of eco-friendly items will rise by 112 per cent to £17.1 billion by 2015.
