Government states UK businesses could save £23 billion if efficiency improved

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

According to new government research, businesses could save £23 billion if they were more efficient in their use of energy, materials and water.

A study carried out by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs indicated that more efficient use of raw materials and reducing waste could save £8 billion, energy £4 billion and water £1 billion.

The report also highlighted the sectors that could potentially benefit the most are chemicals, metal manufacturing, power generation, construction and road freight businesses.

Environmental Secretary Caroline Spelman, said: "Becoming more resource efficient contributes to a business's bottom line, increases profitability and their capacity to grow. In addition to improving competitiveness, businesses could reduce carbon emissions by 29 million tonnes a year; so it's a win-win for business and the environment."

With energy suppliers increasing their prices, becoming more efficient should be a top priority for UK businesses.
