More details on environmental targets for business electricity consumers have been called for by one industry pundit.

Kevin McCloud, designer, author, property developer and presenter of Channel 4's Grand Designs, recently suggested that innovation in this field can only be stimulated by the proper legislation.

He pointed to initiatives such as the 2016 zero carbon directive and Gordon Brown's commitment to reducing carbon levels by 2050 as two examples.

The expert suggested that those in the industry will respond, once the government has made the details surrounding such schemes clearer.

"This government isn't strong on the detail on targets – it's strong on big policy, but what industry really needs is targets," said McCloud.

Business energy consumers were recently pointed towards the Eco Kettle as a way to reduce their power consumption by the Energy Saving Trust.

It also suggested the Standby Plug could yield benefits for those looking to switch energy supplier.
