One in four receive inaccurate bill, new study reveals

A recently compiled report has shown that one in four UK households have received an incorrect bill from their energy supplier and, as a result, owe more than they were initially informed.

The report has found that the average amount owed by consumers is £152 - compared to the £147 average people ended up owing last year, because inaccurate billing, according to an article published by Channel 4 News.

Erroneous billing is thought to effect in excess of nine million households in the UK.

Meanwhile, in a further damning verdict, the energy industry has also been voted as the worst for inaccuracy. Energy suppliers finished ahead of credit card firms, banks and council departments, but below Inland Revenue for producing incorrect bills.

These latest revelations follow the release of figures last week, that displayed almost four million households are in debt with their energy suppliers - with a third owing more than they previously did a year ago.
