Over-50s 'changing lifestyles to meet energy costs'

Between 1 July 2019 and 31 December 2019, at least 10% of people who switched energy supplier for both gas & electricity with Uswitch saved £479 or more.

Around 85 per cent of over-50s in the UK are changing their lifestyles to meet the rising cost of energy, according to new figures.

Research by Saga found that those nearing retirement are planning to use less energy in order to save money on their utilities, while others want to make their properties more energy efficient.

Over 20 per cent of people in the age bracket also claimed that they have had to take money out of savings in order to cope with the rising costs.

It was also found that the public blamed successive UK governments for the rising cost of energy, ahead of suppliers and excessive global consumption.

The findings from Saga have been released after it was recently announced that two of the UK's leading energy companies have increased their prices.

Both British Gas and EDF Energy have blamed the rising cost of wholesale energy on their decision to increase the cost of their gas and electricity.
