Taking steps to reduce business energy bills is one way firms may be able to satisfy their customers, if an expert is to be believed.
Dan Welch, co-editor of Ethical Consumer magazine, says companies that show they care for the environment will go down well with green-thinking members of the public.
"Consumers are motivated by eco-innovations and ethical credentials as never before," he explains, adding businesses do not cut back on harmful emissions "for the love of it. They understand their customers very, very well".
The industry insider claims there is plenty to gain for organisations that develop ways of going green and reducing their business energy consumption, including an immediate upturn in sales and a rise in profits.
Among the companies to have taken eco-friendly action in recent times is eBay, with the online auction site adding a new resell and recycle feature to its portal for electronic goods.
